The Miss Earth South Africa 2010 Final is at Emperor’s Palace in Johannesburg in September this year. 15 contestants will be vying for the crown. The Winner will represent South Africa at Miss Earth 2010 in Vietnam later this year. Chris-Marie Vosloo, 24, is the only Eastern Cape representative in the Miss Earth South Africa pageant. South Africa: Bay beauty in ‘green’ pageant
A YOUNG Nelson Mandela Bay beauty hopes to use her looks and passion to make the world a greener place as the only Eastern Cape finalist in the Miss Earth South Africa competition.

Chris-Marie Vosloo, 24, is the only Eastern Cape representative in the Miss Earth South Africa pageant.
Chris-Marie Vosloo, 24, of Westering, is jetting off to Johannesburg this weekend to take part in several pageant-related activities next week.The competition, which is in its ninth year, is aimed at creating awareness of the environment, wildlife and conservation.
Contestants like Vosloo not only have to be beautiful and intelligent, but must have a passion for the environment – and a “green lifestyle”.
After several gruelling interview sessions, Vosloo was chosen as one of the 15 finalists who would take part in the gala final at Emperor’s Palace in Johannesburg in September this year.
The former Framesby High School pupil said she and her family were very environmentally conscious.
“We recycle paper and plastics, use energy-efficient light bulbs and are very set on saving water, especially with the current drought. We share bath water and use washing machine water to water plants,” said Vosloo.
She said she also enjoyed pageants and had chosen this one because it represented a cause close to her heart.
During the run-up to the pageant, Vosloo and the other constants will get involved in various “green projects”.
Contestants also need to secure a sponsorship of R3000 which will be used to further certain environmental causes.
Vosloo, who has a degree in drama and a diploma in beauty therapy, runs a salon from home and does educational theatre at schools and play-schools in the Bay.
She said if she won the title she would use it to make Nelson Mandela Bay a “greener” place.
“I’d like to get involved in the metro water-purifying project and help raise funds for places like the Oceanarium.”
Not only will her friends and family be rooting for her, but she has also managed to get the backing of a local business that is green in another way. Main Attraxion in Sixth Avenue, Walmer – which stops traffic with their green walls and equipment – will make sure Vosloo’s hair is perfect for the event.
National director of Miss Earth SA Catherine Constantinides described the pageant as a programme to empower young women with “the knowledge and platform to create a sustainable difference in our plight to combat the destruction of our natural heritage”.
The winner of the pageant will go on to take part in Miss Earth.
